Anuradhapura was the first capital of the island established in the 4th century BC. It was the royal capital for 119 successive Singhalese Kings and lasted for about thousand five hundred years. Many historic monuments and buildings still remain in the acres of this sacred land. The city, now a World Heritage site is revered as one of the greatest monastic sites on this planet. There is much to see at Anuradhapura, including the sacred Bodhi tree, Ruwanwelisaya, Thuparamaya, Jetavanarama,Kuttam Pokuna,Samadhi Statue,Isurumuniya etc.
